Multimedia collage. For this piece, I layered my design with watercolour, acrylic, pen and graphite, to emphasise individual textures and patterns. I then uploaded it into Procreate to add and move shapes. The original idea was based around the communication of anxiety induced by solitude and the sense of continuous supervision with the outside world growing and evolving without human interaction.
Window
Exploration of shape and depth. Using multiple mediums, I focused on experimenting with patterns and abstract, textured formations.
Sketchbook Mark Making
Exploration of stylised portraiture. In my sketchbook, I am developing my style of communication with the human form. I play with line work, proportion, colour and medium to explore characters and the narratives they suggest. This sketchbook work helps me develop concepts and stylisations for larger pieces such as my digital piece Persephone.
Sketchbook Portraits
Digital surrealism. I combined the theme of nymphs and the idea of the boundaries between humanity and nature. Initially, the piece was only black and white with a text background; however, it wasn't correctly communicating the concept, so I added the burnt red colour and plant abstracts to contrast the elements.
Persephone
Illustration on textiles and fabric. I design and create clothing patterns before digitally designing illustrations that fit the size of the garment. I use dye sublimation and acrylic paint to create patterns on cloths before sewing them into wearable pieces I can incorporate into daily life.
Textiles
Collection of nude figure drawings. These pieces were all quick pose sketches with a live model showing loose movement and anatomical structure. Executed with a graphite stick and a red pencil, I focus on emphasizing the body's shape and quickly capturing a primary source. I use figure studies such as these as bases for other pieces and character poses.
Nude Figures
Graphic novel panel page. I wanted to capture a moment, almost cinematically through the use of multiple perspectives. I was inspired by 60's illustrations for my focus character and the idea of a third person narrative. I used different tones on each panel to separate them and imply a story told from multiple viewpoints. You are next to her, behind her and below her all while never seeing what is before her.
Little Moments
Graphic, digitally designed poster. The concept behind the development of this piece was to create a visual representation of my generation's disconnection. It stemmed from a sketch I had done in my notes, the boxes representing chat rooms which then developed into an analogy of separation and its effect on mental health. The completed piece acts as a commentary on social media, isolation and the false personas we portray from the safety of our boxes.
Occhiolism
Abstract acrylic painting on cotton canvas (122X91). This piece was inspired by sketchbook work and mark-making exploration. Seven coats of paint were applied over time with a palette knife to create a 3D element that collaborates natural textures and abstract form.
Like Yesterday
Digital self-portrait in greyscale. This piece seeks to mirror the fear of systemic discrimination queer people face.
